How to wear a watch: wrist, fit and cuffs

Which wrist?

Traditionally the non-dominant one — the left for right-handers — so the watch is protected and the crown doesn’t press into the back of your hand. But wear it wherever it feels natural.

How tight?

Snug enough that the case doesn’t slide past the wrist bone, loose enough to fit a finger underneath. A NATO strap adjusts in small steps, so you get it exactly right.

With a suit or shirt

The watch should sit just under the cuff and show when you reach forward. A 6 mm case makes this easy; there is no need to size up your shirt cuff.

Black dial and black or navy strap are the safest pairing with dark tailoring.

With rolled sleeves and summer clothes

Here the watch is on show, so the strap does the work. Crimson and white bring colour to linen and denim; navy goes with almost everything.
